Schoolgirls join NRL squad

Another member of the Lahrs family is edging closer to appearing in the top grade for the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys, with Macey Lahrs, sister of Cowboys NRL Player No. 325 Kaiden, inking a Development List contract with the Cowboys NRLW squad for 2027.

Amazingly, Lahrs will begin her NRLW journey while completing Year 12 at Kirwan State High School next year, as will fellow Kirwan student Tah’Lucy Querro.

Lahrs started in the second row for the 2026 Australian Schoolgirls, scoring a try in a 32-0 win over the PNG Junior Orchids in October.

Like her brother and father, former NSW State of Origin and Australian international Tom Learoyd-Lahrs, Macey also has the ability to play through the middle of the field.

Lahrs will move into the Cowboys' Top 24 in 2028.

Querro captained the Queensland Country Under 17s in their showdown with Queensland City in April.

The dynamic fullback or centre also starred for Kirwan and the Townsville Blackhawks in 2026.

“We're excited to welcome Macey into the NRLW environment as a development player in 2027,” Cowboys NRLW Senior Assistant and Development Coach Ty Williams said.

“She's had an outstanding year, starting with the Townsville Blackhawks Under-17s, playing schoolgirls football with the Kirwan Bears, representing Queensland and earning selection in the Australian Schoolgirls team that competed in PNG.

“Macey brings a great attitude, is coachable and has a strong willingness to work hard.

“Tah’ Lucy had an outstanding 2026 schoolgirls season. She was selected in the Queensland White 17–18 years team as a bottom-age player and was also a key member of the Kirwan State High School girls team.

“She continued to impress in the Townsville Blackhawks Under 17s team, which earned her selection in the Under-17s QLD Country side.

“Tah’Lucy is an exciting talent who has come through our pathways and has shown great commitment and a willingness to learn. We’re looking forward to supporting her continued development in the NRLW environment.”
