The Cowboys Group today announced that inaugural Group Chairman Lewis Ramsay will step down from his role at the conclusion of the calendar year, with current North Queensland Toyota Cowboys Chairman David Myles appointed as his successor.
Mr Ramsay's tenure has spanned one of the most significant periods in the organisation's history, helping steer the Cowboys through the establishment of their new headquarters - the Hutchinson Builders Centre - while navigating the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and laying the foundations for the Club's next phase of growth and evolution. Under his leadership, the organisation strengthened its position as one of regional Australia's most influential sporting and community institutions, expanded its footprint across North Queensland and beyond, and established the Cowboys Group structure to align football, hospitality, community and commercial operations under a unified strategic vision.
Throughout his time as Chair, Mr Ramsay championed a long-term vision focused on sustainability, community impact and regional growth. Key milestones included the establishment of the Cowboys Group governance model, the appointment of the inaugural Group CEO, the continued growth of the Cowboys Leagues Club and Community Foundation, and the expansion of the organisation's presence into emerging markets and communities including Cairns, Far North Queensland and South-East Queensland.
Mr Ramsay said it had been a privilege to serve the organisation and its members.
"The Cowboys have always belonged to the people of North Queensland and it has been an honour to help guide the organisation through a period of significant change and opportunity. Together, we have navigated extraordinary challenges, strengthened our foundations and positioned the Cowboys Group for long-term success."
"I am incredibly proud of what has been achieved by our Board, Executive team, staff, volunteers and members. Most importantly, I am confident the organisation is in a strong position for the future, and I know David will continue to build on that momentum."
Taking over as Group Chairman, David Myles brings extensive commercial, leadership, football and governance experience, together with a long-standing connection to the Cowboys organisation. As Co-Founder and CEO of Gutter Knight Australia, Mr Myles has helped grow the business from a Brisbane pilot into a national franchise network, building broad experience across commercial strategy, franchising, brand development and business leadership. A member of the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys’ inaugural Grand Final team and a Director of the Club since 2023, Mr Myles has most recently served as Chairman of the Football Club Board following the implementation of the Cowboys Group structure. Having played a key role in the Club's governance evolution and strategic direction, Mr Myles said he was honoured to step into the position.
"Lewis leaves an extraordinary legacy. His leadership, vision and commitment have helped transform the Cowboys into a truly diversified group of businesses and community organisations while never losing sight of the values that make this Club special."
"I am honoured to have been entrusted with this opportunity and look forward to working alongside our Board, Group CEO, Executive team and staff as we continue to grow our impact across North Queensland and beyond. The future of the Cowboys Group is incredibly exciting, and I believe we are well positioned to continue delivering for our members, supporters, partners and communities."
The Cowboys Group Board thanked Lewis Ramsay for his outstanding contribution and leadership and welcomed David Myles as the organisation's next Chairman from 1 January 2027.
