Cowboys sign Indigenous All Star Sareka Mooka

The 2022 Gold Stars Cowboys Way award winner is set to make her mark on the NRLW in 2023.

Sareka Mooka has signed a two-year deal with the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys, capping off an extraordinary 12 months for the home-grown North Queensland product.

Born in Cairns before relocating to Townsville, Mooka has represented the AIS Indigenous Women’s Academy, Prime Minster’s XIII, First Nations Gems and Indigenous All-Stars in the past year.

A physical middle or edge forward, Mooka played eight games for the premiership-winning 2022 Gold Stars and has scored three tries in six games for the Mackay Cutters to date in the 2023 campaign.

“Sareka is a true illustration of a North Queensland female who has grasped every opportunity that’s come her way in a very short space of time,” Cowboys NRLW Head Coach Ben Jeffries said.

“She is a powerful forward who leaves nothing in the tank when playing and is feared for her uncompromising defensive tackling style.

“Sareka was awarded the 2022 Gold Stars Cowboys Way Award for her excellent season on and off the field and we see her playing a big part in our NRLW team over the next two seasons.”
