Townsend sets career-high in win over Knights

We take a look at some of the key stats to come out of the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys win over the Newcastle Knights at Queensland Country Bank Stadium.

The number of second half points the Cowboys conceded against Newcastle, the fourth time this season they have held a team scoreless after the break. North Queensland have the best second-half defensive record in the competition (4.11 points), and the second best overall (12.56) behind only Penrith (12.22).

The career-high number of try assists by halfback Chad Townsend. The Cowboys co-captain also had two line break assists, made 18 tackles and kicked for 329 metres in the win. Four is also the number of straight wins the team has had, the first time they have done so since 2017.

The game-high number of tackle breaks by winger Murray Taulagi. The 23-year-old also lead all the backs with 163 metres and 62 post-contact metres, before setting up a try and scoring one himself.

The number of post-contact metres by Jason Taumalolo against Newcastle. The Cowboys co-captain currently leads the NRL in the category with 655 metres through nine games, and is third in total metres behind only Dylan Edwards and James Tedesco.

The conversion rate of Valentine Holmes’ goal kicking. The 26-year-old was a perfect 6/6 to go along with a try, 138 metres and a line break assist. Holmes currently sits second in the competition with 87 points after nine rounds.
