Gold Stars sign niece of former Cowboys flyer

The North Queensland Toyota Gold Stars have signed 21-year-old winger Hagiga Mosby for the remainder of the 2022 BMD Premiership.

Despite not having played rugby league prior to 2022, Mosby was the Broncos equal-leading try scorer with four tries in as many games in the NRLW this season, including the match-winner against the St George Illawarra Dragons in Round 3.

Born on Thursday Island in the Torres Strait, Mosby represented Australia at the Oceania Women’s Sevens Championship in 2019 and the Queensland Reds in the Super W competition in 2020, before making the transition to rugby league in January this year.

The niece of former Cowboy Gideon Gela-Mosby was earlier this month named in the Queensland Maroons extended squad.

"She's a born and bred North Queenslander and is a massive Cowboys fan," Cowboys Elite Pathways Coach Ben Jeffries said.

"Having spent time inside some high-performance rugby programs, Hagi will bring her work ethic and standard straight away, which will help drive our Gold Stars program."

Mosby will be available for selection for the Gold Stars' Round 4 clash against the Burleigh Bears.
