Cowboys yearly review: 2020

The Cowboys opened their 2020 campaign in their brand new home, Queensland Country Bank Stadium, with a Friday night blockbuster against the Brisbane Broncos, going down narrowly 28-21.

With the competition on the verge of being shut down due to Covid-19, the team travelled to an empty ANZ Stadium on Thursday night to take on the Bulldogs, winning 24-16 off the back of a blistering opening half.

When the season restarted almost 10 weeks later, the Cowboys returned home to take on the Titans, with Ben Hampton and Reece Robson scoring doubles in a 36-6 rout of the Titans.

The Cowboys struggled the rest of the way, winning three games the rest of the reduced season, with head coach Paul Green resigning on July 20 and Josh Hannay taking over as interim coach.

While the results weren’t on the field, it did allow for six youngsters to be handed their NRL debuts in Tom Gilbert, Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Connelly Lemuelu, Daejarn Asi, Emry Pere and Ben Condon.
