The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys will farewell five players at tonight’s End of Season Presentation Night at the Townsville Entertainment & Convention Centre.
Headlined by premiership winners Michael Morgan and Justin O’Neill, forward trio Corey Jensen, Francis Molo and Shane Wright will also depart the club.
Morgan, who officially retired on medical grounds in April, appeared in 168 games over the course of an outstanding 12-year career in the NRL.
The 29-year-old threw the famous flick pass to Kyle Feldt to tie the scores in the 2015 grand final, which was the pivotal play in the Cowboys’ historic maiden premiership.
A proud Townsville product, Morgan also appeared in 12 State of Origins for Queensland and 12 Tests for the Kangaroos.
O’Neill, who also had his career cut short through injury, retired in August due to a chronic knee ailment.
The 30-year-old retires as a dual premiership winner, claiming the 2015 grand final with the Cowboys and 2012 decider with Melbourne.
O’Neill appeared in 123 games for North Queensland and 190 NRL games in total, to go with four Origins for Queensland and two Tests for the Kangaroos.
Jensen appeared in 58 games over the course of five seasons for the Cowboys. The Bowen product debuted in 2017 and was a crucial member of the side’s fairytale march to an unlikely grand final appearance that season.
Molo registered 70 appearances for the Cowboys after moving to North Queensland from the Broncos in 2018. The 26-year-old played every possible game for the Cowboys over the course of 2019 and 2020 and became a dependable weapon off the interchange.
Wright appeared in 41 games over the course of five seasons in Cowboys colours. A hard-working second rower, Wright was the ultimate clubman during his time in North Queensland and played 16 games in his final season at the club.
