Gold Stars' Power named in Maroons squad

North Queensland Toyota Gold Star Shaniah Power has capped off an incredible 2020 season with her maiden selection in the Queensland Maroons 20-woman squad for next month’s Women’s State of Origin.

It has been a swift rise for the 23-year-old Bowen product, who was selected for her first All-Stars game in February, before making her NRLW debut with the New Zealand Warriors earlier this month.

“It was super unexpected. It’s all happened at once,” Power said.

“I couldn’t even tell you how much I learned from the experience of playing alongside the girls at the Warriors, it was amazing”

Cowboys Elite Pathways Coach & Coaching Directing of NQ Gold Stars Ben Jeffries said the club was very proud of Power’s rise through the ranks in 2020.

“She has put her best foot forward every time she has been on the big stage this year,” Jeffries said.

“She has done the club and the NQ Gold Stars very proud.”

The Women’s State of Origin kicks off at 6.45pm on Friday, November 13 at Sunshine Coast Stadium.
