Australian Rugby Sevens star Lily Dick has agreed to a two-year contract with the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys, running through the 2026 season.
The 24-year-old Gold Coast product has been a member of the Australian Rugby Sevens team since 2018, appearing in 30 tournaments before suffering an ACL injury in Singapore earlier this year, which forced her to miss the Paris Olympics.
Dick was a member of the 2022 Commonwealth Games Gold Medal-winning squad in 2022 and also won a Rugby 7s World Cup the same year.
Dick is expected to play both second row and middle forward in rugby league.
She will join former Rugby Sevens teammate Jakiya Whitfeld, who was a sensation in her first season at the club, in North Queensland.
“We have kept an eye on a number of players we believed could transition from Rugby 7s to the NRLW,” Henry said.
“We’ve spoken to people we trust and watched a lot of footage of Lily. She actually turned up on our doorstep with Jakiya. From our conversations with Jakiya we learned Lily was looking to try something new and she had a number of the traits, including an appetite for hard work, which we value in our players.
“Making the transition from Rugby Sevens to NRLW will be a big step, but we believe she has the ability, mindset and work ethic to be successful in our game.
“Lily is a very good athlete, runs well and is strong in the gym. We believe she will transition well to second row with her size and speed and we can’t wait to work with her during pre-season.”
