Cowboys re-sign Tabuai-Fidow

The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys have agreed to a one-year contract extension with prodigious 20-year-old talent Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow for the 2023 season.

A born and bred Cairns product, Tabuai-Fidow has enjoyed a remarkable first two seasons in the NRL.

Tabuai-Fidow exploded into the public eye with a mesmerising performance at the 2020 NRL Nines in Perth, including the match-sealing try in the grand final victory over St George Illawarra.

He was handed his NRL debut in Round 5 of the 2020 season as an 18-year-old and finished the campaign with six tries in 14 appearances.

In 2021 he solidified his standing as one of the NRL’s most exciting talents, scoring eight tries in 14 appearances, while also earning a State of Origin debut for Queensland.

Tabuai-Fidow finished 2021 as the Cowboys’ first-choice fullback after splitting much of his first two seasons between wing and centre.

“Hamiso is a born and bred North Queenslander and we envisage him being at our club for a long time,” Cowboys Head of Football Micheal Luck said.

“We have been in constant dialogue with Hamiso’s management around his development and long term playing ambitions and we are thrilled to be able to agree to terms until the end of the 2023 season.

“Hamiso now has the opportunity to work on his game under Todd and his coaching staff in his preferred position over the next two seasons and grow into what we believe he can be – one of the premier strike backs in the competition.

“Hamiso has the ability to do things on a rugby league field very few other players in our game can. He is also an outstanding young man who we hope is wearing a Cowboys jersey for many years to come.”
