Tom Hancock
Years in Cowboys NYC system: 2011-12
What were you studying during your NYC days?: I was studying law and also pulling beers at the Leagues Club
What are you doing now?: After six or seven years playing Queensland Cup with the Northern Pride, I made the move to Townsville at the back end of 2019 to link up with the Blackhawks. I finished my law degree a few years ago now and I work for the Director of Public Prosecutions as a criminal lawyer. That organisation basically runs the more serious cases in Queensland. It’s our job to review briefs of evidence that police have put together and work out the appropriate charges to run in the high courts. I’m a mid-level solicitor in that organisation. I don’t wear the fancy wig and robes and I don’t run the trials, but I prepare matters for sentence and trial and I’ll prosecute the odd sentence here and there.
Nick Dorante
Years in Cowboys NYC system: 2011-12
What were you studying during your NYC days?: I was studying Sports and Exercise Science at JCU while also working behind the bar and as a storeman at Cowboys Leagues Club.
What are you doing now?: When I finished my Business degree at JCU, I ended up getting into a 12-month graduate program with a bank which rolled off into a full-time position. I have been working in commercial banking as a finance analyst ever since. What we do is look after a portfolio of customers in Cairns, Townsville, Mackay and all the way down to Gladstone. Part of that is I get to travel up to North Queensland every couple of months to meet clients. My family is still in Mission Beach so it's always nice to be able to get to Townsville for work and then catch up with them for the weekend.
