Gold Stars duo earn maiden NRLW contracts

North Queensland Toyota Gold Stars duo Romy Teitzel and Shaniah Power have been rewarded for their stellar 2020 seasons with maiden NRLW contracts.

Teitzel, 21, has signed with the back-to-back NRLW champions Brisbane Broncos, while Power, 23, will link up with the New Zealand Warriors.

A Tully junior, Teitzel is a five-eighth/fullback who played a major role in the Gold Stars Round 1 QRLW win over Ipswich Brothers, before scoring three tries in five rounds for the West Brisbane Panthers in the Holcim Cup.

While Power missed the Gold Stars QRLW season-opener before the competition was shut down, the second-rower proved to be one of the Holcim Cup’s best forwards.

Born and raised in Bowen, Power made her Indigenous All Stars debut off the bench earlier this year.

"As a club, we're extremely proud of their achievements to date during the 2020 season." Cowboys Elite Pathways Coach & Coaching Directing of NQ Gold Stars Ben Jeffries said.

"They are seen amongst their peers, club, and the Gold Stars coaching group as leaders and role models.

"We see Romy and Shaniah as only the start of an influx of North Queensland players in possibly gaining opportunities at higher levels and are an example of why the Cowboys Female Academy was formed.

"Their 2020 efforts will only inspire the players beneath and around them in 2021 and for seasons to come."
