Cowboys launch 2020 jersey

When the 2020 North Queensland Toyota Cowboys kick off their season in the new North Queensland Stadium, they’ll be wearing a new jersey with favourite features from years past.

The Cowboys’ official Home and Away jerseys launched today will feature in seasons 2020 and 2021.

The official competition jersey is a throwback to the original 1995 uniform with a modern influence suiting the state-of-the-art stadium backdrop.

Behind the scenes: 2020 jersey launch

Cowboys CEO Jeff Reibel said the jersey is fittingly themed.

“Ahead of a landmark 25th year for the club, in which we will move into our new home, we wanted our jersey to pay homage to our foundations,” he said.

“On Friday 13 March we will see our team run out in these fantastic jerseys for the first time and we will no doubt take a moment to savour how far we’ve come.”

“The jersey looks incredible and really gives our partners and our branding the opportunity to shine, and our members and fans the chance to add a modern and meaningful piece to their collection.”

“Our principal partner Toyota stands out on the jersey front, as it has since 2003 in one of the longest standing principal partnerships in the competition.”

The Cowboys will kick off a fresh era next year with a blockbuster Round 1 clash against arch rivals Brisbane Broncos.

It’s the first-time club partners, members and fans will be seated in the brand-new stadium, watching their team run out in a fashion reminiscent of the first thrilling match.

In a recent photoshoot arranged by the club, Michael Morgan wears the Home jersey and Jake Clifford the Away jersey with their new home ground in the background.

Chief marketing officer Jacqui James-Eggins spoke of the response to the jersey.

“The reaction behind the scenes to the jersey has been extremely positive. When we did the shoot with Morgo and Cliffo to prepare for the jersey launch, they immediately recognised the heritage look and feel and were excited that it had been incorporated into a modern jersey worthy of a new stadium,” she said.

The launch of the jersey comes a day after the reveal of the club’s 25th anniversary logo, also echoing the club’s maiden year in style.

“The jersey design evolved out of the creative process that drove the logo design. We wanted to bring all that we've learnt, all of who we are and what we’ve become into the jersey as well as the logo,” Ms James-Eggins said.

“The block of navy over the chest is a defining feature of the home jersey which is predominantly white, just like our ’95 jersey. In the last few years our home jersey has actually been predominantly navy, so the colour swap is another nod to the past. The stripes incorporate our secondary colours of grey and gold, also harking back to the original jersey’s stripes.”

“We’re anticipating a favourable response from supporters, knowing that the retro style has been a member and fan favourite for the past several years.”

Fans and members can pre-order the Cowboys 2020 Home and Away jerseys from the Cowboys Team Shop online and instore.
