2019 season review: Reuben Cotter

After three consecutive seasons ruined by ACL injuries, Reuben Cotter constructed one of the feel-good rugby league stories of 2019.

The 20-year-old was finally cleared to return for game action in the days leading up to the Cowboys first pre-season trial in February.

He began the season with Mackay in the Queensland Cup and was one of the competition’s best players through the opening rounds.

Cotter was called up for an NRL debut against Manly in Round 13 and had a fairytale try with his first touch called back by the video referee.

The Sarina Crocs junior managed five top grade appearances in his debut season, including three of the Cowboys final four games.

Cotter was also nominated for the Queensland Cup’s Rookie of the Year and recently signed a one-year contract extension for the 2020 season.
