There were several eye-catching performances from individual players while Parramatta recorded the upset of the round with their win over title contenders Penrith at Panthers Stadium.

Eels centre Michael Jennings could find himself in hot water with the match review committee on Monday after he was reported for a high shot on Penrith forward Isaah Yeo.

Josh Papalii starred in Sunday's later game, leading the Raiders to a 21-0 shutout of the Titans on the Gold Coast.

Melbourne kicked off their season in typical fashion with a strong win over Brisbane, Newcastle downed Cronulla while Souths got the wood on their rivals, the Roosters, on Friday. The Warriors trounced the Bulldogs, the Wests Tigers were too good for Manly at Leichhardt and North Queensland overpowered St George Illawarra in Townsville on Saturday night.
