280 home games, and counting
The moments experienced by Cowboys foundation member Lanny Cowell may span the 280 home games he's attended since 1995, but what stands out is his love of the Cowboys shared with son Josh.
Lanny and Josh were among the first Cowboys members to see the players in action in late January during the Members Exclusive Training Session at 1300SMILES Stadium.
It’s the first time they’ve been together to see the Cowboys on home soil since Josh returned to Townsville after living away for seven years.
“Whenever Dad and I would talk on the phone while I was away it’d usually be about the Cowboys,” Josh said.
“Now that I’m back it will definitely be good to go to a few games together. I’m sure we’ll do a fair bit of bonding over the Cowboys this year.”
Evidence of Lanny’s devotion to the Cowboys is in the number of games he has attended, or missed, since becoming a member in 1995.
“I think I might have missed three or four over the seasons for someone’s wedding somewhere or something, but that’s about it, because I follow the Cowboys passionately!” Lanny said.
It’s his love of the game that prompted Lanny to renew his full-season membership with the Cowboys every year.
“I love the rugby league, I used to play rugby league myself (a long time ago of course), and I love the Cowboys.”
This is backed up by Josh, who described his Dad as a ‘Cowboys tragic’.
“He’s very excited for the season and he loves being a member,” Josh said.
“Dad’s been a Cowboys member since 1995 and has sat in the same seats up in the eastern grandstand since then.”
