Te Maire goes back-to-back

Te Maire Martin's first ever appearance at fullback was so impressive it earned him man of the match honours – his second was even better.

For the second consecutive week Martin was named Tropic Petroleum man of the match by North Queensland Toyota Cowboys head coach Paul Green during post-match celebrations at the Cowboys Leagues Club after a brilliant performance against Newcastle.

The 22-year-old had never played fullback at any level of rugby league before Green switched the playmaker to the back prior to the Round 19 clash with St George, but just two weeks later appears to have made the No.1 jersey his own.

Aside from providing the final pass for Gavin Cooper's match-winning try, Martin registered five tackle-breaks, a line-break and 86 running metres from 11 carries.

"There were a couple of players that put themselves in the frame for man of the match," Green said.

"But for the second week in a row we gave it to Te Maire Martin, who I thought was fantastic at the back for us again."
