Hess returns for run-on side

North Queensland Toyota Cowboys head coach Paul Green has named his 21-man squad to take on the Penrith Panthers at 1300SMILES Stadium on Thursday night, with Lachlan Coote named for the first time in 2018.

Green has indicated the premiership-winning fullback will likely make his return through the Queensland Cup with the Mackay Cutters, but still opted to name Coote on his extended bench, replacing Kyle Laybutt.

The premiership-winning fullback has missed the club’s opening three games of the season due a hamstring injury sustained during the Johnathan Thurston-Cameron Smith Testimonial match in February.

Five-eighth Michael Morgan has again been named to partner co-captain Johnathan Thurston in the halves after a successful return from an abdominal strain, while Coen Hess retains his spot in the starting side.

Utility Te Maire Martin joins John Asiata, Scott Bolton and Ethan Lowe on the interchange bench.

Thursday’s game kicks off at 7.05pm local time.
