North Queensland Toyota Cowboys NYC coach Aaron Payne is set to welcome livewire No.1 Kalyn Ponga back to the team when the under-20s host the South Sydney Rabbitohs on Friday night.

Ponga has been named in his customary fullback position after two weeks as custodian for the club’s NRL team – with the return from injury of first-choice fullback Lachlan Coote to first grade, Ponga moves back to the National Youth Competition outfit.

Ponga’s expected return to NYC footy means Nathan Traill moves back to the wing, while Kurt Wiltshire shifts back into the extended 23-man squad.

This will be the young Cowboys' first game in a fortnight after their round 4 match against the Titans was postponed after a flight cancellation left them unable to get to the venue in Cudgen, in far northern New South Wales, on time.

The team is undefeated in 2017 after winning their first three matches of the season.
