Six teams remain undefeated after 99 tries were scored on the first day of the Downer NRL Auckland Nines at Eden Park.

The Sharks and Titans opened the Nines with Kane Elgey scoring the first try of the tournament and recording a successful return to rugby league after a lengthy injury stint.

The Panthers, Sea Eagles and Eels secured two wins from two outings, while all three Queensland teams (Broncos, Cowboys and Titans) head into day two in good shape.

Players from the Queensland teams also led the try scoring on Saturday, with Jordan Kahu (Broncos) and Gideon Gela-Mosby (Cowboys) each claiming five tries.

Jai Field produced a strong performance for the Dragons, with three tries in two matches.

The Harvey Norman Jillaroos started strongly against the Kiwi Ferns in the first of three matches during the Nines, recording a 20-4 win.

The Sharks, Bulldogs, Dragons, Warriors, Tigers and Rabbitohs are yet to record a win and will be aiming to change their fortunes in the first half of the tournament on Sunday.

Day two begins at 10.35am NZ (7.35am Qld), with the Sharks taking on the Bulldogs first up.
