Cowboys & XXXX announce Carl Webb ‘Stronger Together’ Community Grant recipients

The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys, alongside Platinum Partner XXXX, are excited to announce the North Queensland recipients of the Carl Webb ‘Stronger Together’ Community Grant, supporting rugby league clubs and communities across Queensland.

Launched alongside the Brisbane Broncos in April, ahead of the sides’ Round 6 XXXX Derby clash, the initiative furthers the legacy of Cowboy #168, Carl Webb, who represented both clubs with distinction and embodied resilience, toughness, and a deep connection to the communities that supported him along the way.

Webb’s enduring legacy was further celebrated at Queensland Country Bank Stadium on Saturday, with the iconic ‘Scott your Thurst-On’ Bar temporarily rebranded to ‘Webby’s Water Hole’ for the XXXX Derby showdown, while Carl’s son, Carter was in attendance to present Cowboys Co-Captain Reuben Cotter with the Carl Webb Medal as the player of the match.

Backed by combined contributions from the Cowboys and Broncos and matched by XXXX, the Carl Webb ‘Stronger Together’ Community Grant provides $60,000 in direct funding via 12 $5,000 grants (6 each from the Cowboys and Broncos) to community rugby league clubs and club-led initiatives across the state.

Nominations for the ‘Stronger Together’ Community Grant opened in April to senior rugby league clubs and community groups across the state, with the recipients selected by a panel including representatives from the Cowboys, Broncos, XXXX and the Webb family.

Souths Rugby League Club, Townsville:

Souths Bulls have made a significant impact across the community, supporting three senior teams and hundreds of players across all grades.
‘Stronger Together’ funding will help the club reduce financial pressures on families, improve equipment and facilities, and ensure players have access to a safe, inclusive, and positive environment in which to develop and compete.
The club acknowledges the critical role volunteers play in the club’s success and the importance of community sport in fostering connection, opportunity, and a strong sense of belonging for participants, families, and supporters alike.

Herbert River Crushers RLFC, Ingham

The Herbert River Crushers senior club plays an important role in supporting player development pathways and fostering participation across all age groups within the community.
The club has consistently demonstrated a willingness to support regional rugby league initiatives and has been a valued partner in efforts to grow and strengthen the game across the North Queensland region.
The club’s collaboration and positive engagement have contributed to increased participation opportunities and stronger community connections.

Mornington Island Raiders, Wellesley Islands

The Mornington Island Raiders compete in the Gulf Cluster competition, working to address a number of challenges facing the Mornington Island community. Despite these challenges, the club continues to provide important opportunities for participation, connection, and positive community engagement through rugby league.
The club faces unique logistical and financial pressures due to its remote location, with players and officials required to travel by both air and road to participate in Gulf Cluster fixtures. These travel requirements create significant costs and place additional demands on the club, its volunteers, and its participants throughout the season.
‘Stronger Together’ funding will assist the club in continuing to provide playing opportunities for its community.

Normanton Stingers RLFC, Normanton

Normanton Stingers proudly represent Normanton in the Gulf Cluster. The club fields strong and competitive Men’s and Women’s teams, with all the gulf cluster matches being played at John Henry Memorial Oval in Normanton for 2026
The club has continued to welcome community-led initiatives, with ‘Stronger Together’ funding to assist the club in creating stronger connections in the community.

Mossman Port Douglas Senior Rugby League Club, Mossman

The Mossman Port Douglas Sharks represent the Douglas Shire in the FNQ Rugby League competition, playing a critical role in fostering community connection, wellbeing and resilience, providing a positive and inclusive environment for participants, families and volunteers.
‘Stronger Together’ funding will provide assistance towards overcoming the significant challenges facing the Mossman community following Cyclone Jasper, subsequent flooding events, and the closure of the local sugar mill, which has caused a substantial economic and social impact on the region.

Brothers RLFC, Mackay

Brothers Mackay have become an important feeder club for their community, strengthening player pathways and contributing to the long-term development of rugby league in the region.
Brothers is a community-focused club that operates without the financial backing of poker machine revenue, making its achievements particularly noteworthy. Despite these limitations, the club has undertaken a remarkable transformation in recent years, building a strong culture, improving operations, and establishing itself as a respected organisation within the Mackay rugby league community.
The club is led by a well-organised and proactive committee that has demonstrated a strong commitment to development and community participation. Their focus on nurturing local talent, supporting player development pathways, and creating opportunities for young people has had a positive impact across the Mackay region.
Continued support for the club via the ‘Stronger Together’ grant would help sustain this momentum and strengthen rugby league outcomes for players, volunteers, and the broader community.
