Two North Queensland job seekers have taken big steps toward fulfilling their career goals, with the help of the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys’ Dream, Believe, Achieve program.

Matilda Eseli Doolah and Cassandra McHenry have been undertaking a Certificate III in Customer Engagement training course with Cowboys Dream, Believe, Achieve, conducted in partnership with Stockland Townsville.

Having successfully completed their training, Matilda and Cassandra received a first-hand orientation to the retail world through work experience at the Stockland Customer Care Desk.

“Matilda and Cassandra are keen to work in the retail industry, and this shows in their enthusiasm and dedication,” Cowboys community ambassador Matthew Bowen said, having visited them on-site at Stockland.

“They've done really well in completing their training and the hands-on work experience that Stockland has provided helps them gain valuable on-the-job skills.

"It also gives the many prospective employers among Stockland’s tenants the chance to see them putting those skills into practice."

During their time at the Customer Care Desk, Cassandra and Matilda completed a site induction and worked alongside Stockland Townsville’s customer care staff to learn the duties of the role, including customer service for general enquiries made at the desk, answering phone calls, hiring equipment to customers and handling ticket and gift card sales.

Stockland Regional Retail Manager Natalie Myatt said: “We're proud to support the employment program with the North Queensland Cowboys and help people within our community gain employment in the retail industry."

"Our Customer Care Desk provided a real retail environment for Matilda and Cassandra where they could apply the skills learned through their Certificate III in Customer Engagement.

“As the employment program continues through the year we look forward to offering more work experience opportunities at Stockland Townsville, to help job seekers put their new skills into practice and look to gain permanent employment.”

Supported by the Queensland Government through their Skilling Queenslanders for Work program, Cowboys Dream, Believe, Achieve is providing 30 disadvantaged job seekers with accredited training, one-on-one personal support from a skilled mentor, work experience opportunities and job placement assistance over a 12-month period to help them succeed in the workforce.
