Lachlan Coote and John Asiata opted for the traditional clippered crew cut, while Ethan Lowe went shocking blonde, revealing his 'do from beneath a turban during Thursday’s official 'shave-off'. Rest easy – Lowey had his hair returned to a more natural colour ahead of the team flying out to Sydney on Friday. While he’s getting plenty of attention off the field for his noble fundraising deeds... Ethan Lowe raised eyebrows on the field with an eye-catching display in the Cowboys' opening-round 20-14 win over the Cronulla Sharks at 1300SMILES Stadium last Saturday. Lowe punched out 80 minutes, running for almost 150m, making 38 tackles, laying on a try for centre Justin O’Neill and scoring what would be the match-winner with six minutes left on the clock. Many regarded it as Lowe’s finest outing in his 41-game NRL career and he was duly awarded man-of-the-match honours for a fine display.
A cool little parcel arrived on the Cowboys Insider's desk this week... An NRL promotion is underway featuring Micros, figurines in the likeness of your favourite NRL players. The first series will be released next week, and features ‘little’ Jason Taumalolo. Word is that Taumalolo’s teammates Lachlan Coote and Jake Granville will be part of subsequent releases, while Ethan Lowe is included in a rarer, “emerging stars” line. Cowboys, New South Wales and Australian front rower James Tamou also has a 1.2m inflatable figure released under the promotion, and he was snapped this week getting in a cheeky gym session on the real players’ day off.
The good vibes from our successful World Club Challenge campaign continue... Toyota Cowboys fan Simon Hirst and daughter Lucy, who caught up with the players after the game at Headingley in Leeds, had his letter of thanks to the team published in his local paper and it was promptly forwarded to the club. Cowboys Insider then posted a screenshot of the letter, under the tweet, “Some love from over in the old dart #ridemcowboys #HistoryHappens”. This prompted an enquiry from Simon wanting to decipher the cheeky tweet – seems that some don't know that 'old dart' is Aussie slang for 'England'. Anyway, confusion overcome and we’re glad Simon appreciated the Cowboys coming over to play in the WCC.
