Michael Morgan has won his first major individual award as a North Queensland Toyota Cowboy – the 2014 Members’ Player award.

The 22-year-old fullback won the majority of votes cast by the Cowboys’ 12,000-plus members to have his name engraved on their trophy for the first time.

He finished ahead of previous winners Johnathan Thurston and Matt Scott after starring in his new role in the No.1 jersey for the NRL squad.

Morgan received his award at the annual Members’ Carnival attended by hundreds of North Queensland members at Cowboys HQ today.

“It’s a very big honour and one I’m really stunned to have received,” Morgan told the carnival crowd.

“At the start of the year all I wanted to do was try and play first grade more consistently.

“So far, the year’s gone pretty well but there’s still more for us to do.

“To win something like this, and be thought of by the members as their best player, is something I’m going to treasure.”

The Members’ Carnival was once again a huge hit, with the NRL squad the stars of the morning after defeating the Gold Coast Titans on Saturday night – their seventh straight home victory.

They signed autographs and posed for photos, with the festivities also including live entertainment, tours of the players’ gym and coaching facilities, a pass the ball competition, footy skills clinics, children’s rides and activities, plus a free sausage sizzle from the Cowboys Supporters Team.
