New NYC Cowboy Josh Chudleigh scored two second-half tries to help the North Queensland under-20s to a hard-fought 30-28 win against reigning Townsville District Rugby League premiers Herbert River at Ingham Showgrounds tonight.

Playing his first match for his new club after moving north from Canberra, Chudleigh was outstanding for the Cowboys with his man-of-the-match display including a try in the third quarter to put his team 22-18 ahead and another four-pointer from a charge down with 15 minutes left.

The victory was the second of the pre-season for coach Todd Wilson’s squad, but unlike last week’s win against Mackay Cutters, tonight’s lineup included a host of first-year Cowboys.

Fijian Viliame Kikau, who has played in all three trials, scored for the second straight week, while Ty Carucci and Michael Barclay also touched down in the first half.

The Cowboys will play their fourth and final trial against the Townsville Stingers’ Mal Meninga Cup team at Brothers in Townsville next Saturday.
