Union legend Marsters joins Cowboys

The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys have agreed to a two-year contract with Australian Women’s Rugby Union star Ashley Marsters, running through the end of the 2027 NRLW season.

Marsters is the most capped Wallaroos player in history, with 45 Test appearances following her debut in 2014.

Born in Rarotonga in the Cook Islands, Marsters has also played extensively in the Super Rugby Women’s competition with both the Melbourne Rebels and Western Force.

Regarded as one of the leading hookers in Women’s International Rugby, Marsters is expected to play middle forward in her transition to rugby league.

Marsters will officially begin her rugby league journey on Monday when the Cowboys NRLW team return for the start of the 2026 pre-season.

Cowboys fans may have also caught a glimpse of Marsters alongside some of the biggest names in Australian sport on the recently aired Foxtel show Rivals: Sport vs. Sport where she was part of the eventual champion Team Rugby Union alongside Desiree Miller, Joseph Aukuso Sua’ali’i and Harry Wilson.

“Ash comes to us with elite‑level experience and leadership,” Cowboys NRLW Head Coach Ricky Henry said.

“Her 45 Test caps - the most by any Wallaroo speak volumes about her durability and adaptability in the professional game.

“She has the physical presence and edge to thrive in the NRLW and I can’t wait to see the impact she makes this season.”
