Cowboys boards meet in Cairns

North Queensland Toyota Cowboys hierarchy have met in Cairns this week as the club prepares to lodge a development application to begin construction on the $30 million Community, Development and High Performance Centre at West Barlow Park.

The Cowboys have secured initial funding, through a $15 million commitment from the Federal Government, to begin construction on the project, which will be home to the Cowboys NRLW team and the Northern Pride.

The centre will also be available for use by other sporting groups from the Cairns and Far North Queensland Community in similar fashion to the Hutchinson Builders Centre in Townsville.

The boards of both the Cowboys Football Club and Leagues Club have met in Cairns this week to continue discussions around increased investment in Far North Queensland.

The agenda included securing a social home for the Cowboys in Cairns.

The Cowboys also held a stakeholder meeting in Cairns last night, which included council and government representatives, sporting administrators and commercial partners.

“As we move closer to breaking ground for the Community, Development and High Performance Centre we believe it was important for the boards of both the Football and Leagues Clubs to meet in Cairns to discuss our ever-evolving plans for growth in Far North Queensland,” Cowboys Chairman Lewis Ramsay said.

“We are preparing to lodge a development application with Cairns Regional Council in the near future, with a view to commencing construction at West Barlow Park in early 2026.

“Our stakeholder meeting on Thursday night was productive and reinforced the strong local support for our vision.

“We are committed to building a facility which delivers lasting community and sporting outcomes for the regions.”
