Game on in Community Corner

Team Code Blue has been unveiled as the season’s first community organisation to feature in Community Corner for the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys opening home game against the Sharks at Queensland Country Bank Stadium this weekend.

Community Corner, presented by Townsville City Council, is a dedicated space at Cowboys home games where community organisations can build their profile and raise awareness for their cause.

‘Community organisations are vital to the wellbeing of our community, they not only provide support and services but also encourage connectivity and camaraderie across a wide variety of people, interests and issues,” Cowboys Community Foundation’s CEO, Fiona Pelling said.

“Community Corner is offered at no cost to the participating organisation, reflecting the Cowboys’ commitment to assisting charities and not-for-profits to generate awareness and support for what they do,” Fiona said.

“Organisations often run competitions, have giveaways or fun activities which also adds to the experience of Cowboys fans in the lead up to kick-off.”

Team Code Blue is a charity run by a small group of volunteer former First Responders including Shane (Queensland Police Service) and Peter (Queensland Ambulance Service), raising funds to support First Responders who have been injured or become unwell due to a service-related incident or event.

“First responders are the people we rely on when things go wrong, they are the ones who run towards danger instead of away from it,” Peter said.

“Unfortunately, that means the physical and mental injuries they suffer in the line of duty can be life-altering. Having been injured ourselves we understand the feelings of isolation and loneliness that follow.

“Team Code Blue offers financial assistance, advocacy and advice and generally a shoulder for First Responders to lean on during those difficult times.

“We are sports fans ourselves, and love linking sports fans with our mission so Community Corner is a great opportunity for us to share what we do and why, and Cowboys fans can ask us how to get into the draw to win a 2025 team-signed Cowboys jersey.”

Community Corner is located on the Northern Concourse at Queensland Country Bank Stadium just inside the Gate A entry and runs from gates open until kick off.

A Townsville City Councillor Brodie Phillips said Council and Cowboys had shared values in supporting community organisations.

“Through partnering with the Cowboys and initiatives like Community Corner we can help celebrate, advocate and inform about the valuable contributions of Townsville organisations in supporting the community,” he said.

Tickets for the Cowboys opening home game are on sale through cowboys.com.au/tickets or Ticketmaster outlets.
