Cowboys pride just as strong on the sidelines for Emerald member

An unrealised North Queensland Toyota Cowboys career was top-of-mind for member Matt Raine when he joined the squad’s training session for a once-in-a-lifetime sideline experience this week.

The Super Star member from Emerald won a sideline seat to a ‘Captains Run’, the last training session before a home game, in an online competition on The Homestead in February.

“My daughter Grace and I have been able to meet the squad and see up close the work they put in to prepare for a game - an unforgettable experience and a reminder of my own aspirations as a young footy player,” Matt said.

“At the end of their first season in 1995 the Cowboys held an open training session for representative players to try out for the team, so I thought I’d give it a go,” he said.

“Aged 19 at the time, I unfortunately made the decision to head out for a few beers the night before and as a result didn’t make it to training on time the next morning, ending the dream of being a Cowboy before it began.”

Although the father-of-three didn’t join the likes of Laurie Spina, Paul Bowman and Adrian Vowles during the club’s inaugural season, Matt’s passion for the Cowboys never waned.

“For anyone considering a membership I’d say do it, because the Cowboys is a great club full of great people with strong community values, which you can be part of as a member.”

Cowboys Head of Membership Sharon Cunningham said every member had an important role in shoring up the longevity of the club.

“The Cowboys have the support of some of the most passionate and loyal fans in the code, most notably our 15,000 members extending from Papua New Guinea to Tasmania and everywhere in between,” Sharon said.

“Supporter memberships like Matt’s Super Star membership are excellent options for people who can’t make it to all the games but want to show the squad they’re being supported throughout their premiership campaign,” she said,

Super Star membership is available for $85 per person and includes an adult’s merchandise pack, a $20 Team Shop Voucher (min. $50 online spend) and access to exclusive offers and events.

Rising Star membership is available for $75 per child and includes a kid’s merchandise pack, a $20 Team Shop Voucher (min. $50 online spend) and a signed birthday card.
