Cowboys re-sign Luki

The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys have agreed to a three-year contract extension with home-grown reigning Rookie of the Year Heilum Luki through the end of the 2025 season.

The 20-year-old rising star burst on to the scene with a standout maiden season in the NRL in 2021 and announced himself as one of the brightest emerging talents in rugby league.

A towering second-rower with rare athletic ability, Luki came through the Cowboys Cairns Academy before joining the NRL squad on a development contract last season.

Luki scored an emotional try on debut against the Knights in Round 11 and finished the season with three tries in 11 appearances.

“We are thrilled to finalise Heilum’s extension,” Cowboys General Manager of Football Micheal Luck said.

“Heilum encapsulates why this club was built. He’s a local junior who came through the grades with the Northern Pride and then graduated to the NRL here at the Cowboys.

“He made a promising start to his career last year and has progressed even further in the off season and we’re really excited about not only what he can do for us this year, but right through until the end of 2025 and hopefully beyond.”
