Cowboys re-sign Taulagi

The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys have agreed to a two-year contract extension with outside back Murray Taulagi for the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

Taulagi has appeared in 27 games for the Cowboys over the course of three seasons since his debut in Round 18 of the 2019 season.

The 22-year-old has enjoyed a breakout campaign in 2021. Taulagi leads the Cowboys with 10 tries in 17 appearances this season, including a masterful three-try performance in a Round 11 victory over Newcastle.

Taulagi has played 22 of his 27 career games on the wing, but also has the ability to play centre.

A former Kiwi schoolboy rugby union standout, Taulagi has registered 41 tackle breaks, 11 line-breaks and two try assists as well as 111 running metres a game this season.

“We’re extremely excited to have locked Murray in for another two years,” Cowboys Head of Football Micheal Luck said.

“He has begun to establish himself as an every week first grader this season. He has done some great things on the wing and has also shown some positive signs over the past two weeks when he has been asked to play in the centres.

“Murray came through our junior system, he has a good knowledge of what Todd and his coaching staff are trying to do and the style of football they want us to play.

“He is going to be an important asset for our club over the next two seasons and hopefully further into the future.”
