The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys have granted prop Wiremu Greig an immediate release from the final year of his contract to take up an opportunity with another NRL club.
Greig was yet to appear in the top grade for the Cowboys since joining the NRL squad prior to the 2020 season.
The 21-year-old made nine Queensland Cup appearances in stints with the Townsville Blackhawks and Northern Pride.
“Wiremu was offered a long-term opportunity which we were not in the position to match,” Cowboys Head of Football Micheal Luck said.
“He was presented with the option of leaving immediately and Wiremu indicated it was important for him to secure his future quickly.
“We are really blessed to have a quality group of young middle forwards and we did not want to stand in the way of Wiremu taking a multi-year deal with another club.
“Wiremu has been terrific on and off the field during his time at our club and he’ll certainly be missed.”
