Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow has completed a remarkable 2020 by claiming Rookie of the Year at tonight’s North Queensland Toyota Cowboys End of Season Presentation Night at the Townsville Entertainment and Convention Centre.
His season started by missing the first two weeks of pre-season to finish high school, but Tabuai-Fidow finished 2020 as one of the brightest talents in the NRL.
The 19-year-old burst onto the rugby league radar at the Perth Nines in February, scoring four tries in as many games in the Cowboys’ triumphant campaign.
Tabuai-Fidow had to wait until Round 5 for his NRL debut, but made an immediate impact, producing a brilliant pass to send Valentine Holmes over for a try with one of his first touches in the top grade.
With Holmes injured, Tabuai-Fidow filled in seamlessly at fullback and continued to thrill crowds on the wing after Holmes’ return.
In 14 games during his debut season, Tabuai-Fidow crossed for six tries – a number of which were Try of the Year candidates.
