Cowboys sign Lemuelu

The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys have agreed to a two-year contract with 21-year-old back Connelly Lemuelu.

Lemuelu came through the Wests Tigers system before joining the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in 2019.

In 21 games for the Bulldogs’ Canterbury Cup side, Lemuelu scored eight tries as well as averaging two tackle breaks, two offloads and 127 running metres a game.

A product of Papatoetoe in south Auckland, Lemuelu moved to Australia to attend Keebra Park High School on the Gold Coast and booted the winning field goal for the school in the 2016 GIO Schoolboys Cup state final in 2016.

The Golden Point field goal kicked by Keebra Park State High School fullback Connelly Lemuelu that booked his school a spot in next Wednesday's National Final against Westfields Sports.

Lemuelu played every position in the backline for the Bulldogs this season including six appearances at fullback, four on the wing, nine at centre and one apiece at halfback and five-eighth.

“Connelly is going to add significant depth to our outside backs,” Cowboys Recruitment Manager Clint Zammit said.

“He’s a big body, a really good athlete and he covers a lot of positions.

“On top of all that, he’s a fantastic kid, which was one thing that really stood out when we met with him.”
