5 things you need to know: Round 25

The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys travel to Melbourne for a Friday night clash with the Melbourne Storm at AAMI Park.

1. FAREWELL 2019

Friday night’s clash with the Storm marks the Cowboys’ 2019 season finale. It will also be the third time the two sides have met this year, including a pre-season trial in Mackay. The Cowboys were victorious in Mackay, but the Storm rebounded to claim a tight 18-12 victory in Round 5 at 1300SMILES Stadium.

2. THANKS BOLTS

Cowboys life member Scott Bolton will play 246th and final game for the club on Friday night. Bolton will finish his Cowboys career with the fourth-most games in club history, trailing only Johnathan Thurston, Matt Bowen and Matt Scott.

3. FAMILIAR TERRITORY

Vice-captain Jordan McLean and fullback Scott Drinkwater know better than most what to expect from the Storm tomorrow night. McLean played 86 games for Melbourne across five seasons, while Drinkwater made his NRL debut for the Storm last season.

4. MOOSE RETURNS

After a three-week stint on the sidelines, star forward Josh McGuire is back in the Cowboys’ line-up for the Storm clash. McGuire has been named to start from the interchange, with Green indicating the Queensland and Australian rep may spend time at hooker.

5. GOING FOR THE HAT-TRICK

A win over the Storm would see the Cowboys finish 2019 with three straight victories, a feat they have only achieved once this season. North Queensland’s other hat-trick of wins came between Rounds 10 and 12 when they toppled the Eels, Raiders and Titans.

Acknowledgement of Country
