XXXX and the Maroons: it's in our DNA

When State of Origin rolls around, most Queenslanders have the same routine.

Deck yourself out in Maroon and park yourself on the couch, at the pub, or in the grandstand. Cheer on our great state until your voice gives out. Take a swig of the XXXX in your hand and carry on.

Cheer, beer, cheer again. It’s a ritual Queenslanders have been nailing since the early days of Origin history – and we’ve been there, by your side to bring you the taste of victory and to help you swallow defeat.

Origin isn’t just about where you’re from, it’s about who you are. XXXX is Queensland through and through, which is why our partnership with the Maroons has stood the test of time.

It was 1991 when we joined forces. The state’s favourite beer and the state’s favourite team, together at last. And it all kicked off in perfect fashion.

The mighty Maroons had wrapped up the series in straight sets before a Lang Park homecoming in the ’91 series finale. It was late in the game, we were down by four points, when the ground announcer told the roaring Brisbane crowd something that no one saw coming. Wally Lewis, The King, was set to retire at full-time.

The crowd went mental at the news, and lifted Queensland to a typical come-from-behind win, sealing a series clean sweep. The fans got to raise a XXXX as The King was crowned for the final time – and when the players got into the sheds to celebrate, there were a few GOLDs waiting for them, too.

We’ve been sitting in the dressing rooms for every game since. We’ve been in the hands of the punters as we’ve seen Origin heroes come and go, battles won and lost. We’ve been spread across fences, goal posts, jerseys and fields across all levels of rugby league in the Sunshine State, as we try to support the next crop coming through.

Origin time is like Christmas in Queensland, and we’re proud to be the drink of choice when Queenslanders celebrate. When State of Origin 2019 hits, we’ll take our support to another level.

We’re one team, one state. Nothing else matters. Nothing but Maroon.
