Cowboy sits second for Q-Cup's top honour

North Queensland Toyota Cowboys second-rower Shane Wright currently sits equal-second in the race for the Petero Civoniceva Medal for the best player in the Queensland Cup.

Wright, who plays for the Mackay Cutters, sits on eight points through the opening five games, one point back of Harry Grant of the Sunshine Coast Falcons.

The 23-year-old is averaging 125.3 metres, just over 20 tackles and two tackle breaks a game.

Meanwhile, 18-year old Tom Gilbert, who has picked up three QRL.com Team of the Week selections, also sits inside the top 10. 

The Townsville Blackhawks lock is averaging 159.4 metres, 34 tackles and just under four tackle breaks a game.
