North Queensland Toyota Cowboys board members Laurence Lancini and Professor Sandra Harding have been recognised in the Australia Day 2019 honours list.

Cowboys chairman Laurence Lancini has been appointed as a Member of the Order of Australia for significant service to rugby league and the North Queensland community.

Mr Lancini has served on the Cowboys board since 2000 and as chairman from 2003.

"I am extremely humbled to receive this honour," Mr Lancini told the Townsville Bulletin.

Cowboys board member and James Cook University Vice Chancellor Professor Sandra Harding has been appointed as an Officer of the Order of Australia for distinguished service to education at the national and international level, and to the community of Queensland.

Professor Harding has served on the Cowboys board since 2011.

Cowboys Acting CEO Jeff Reibel congratulated both board members on their achievements.

"Words just don't do justice to Laurence's contribution to our club," Mr Reibel said.

"His dedication and leadership continue to give our club the foundation and platform for success and who we are today.

"Sandra's commitment and service to our board has been crucial during a strong period of growth for our club.

"At the same time, she has led the continual development of James Cook University to the world class educational facility it is today.

"We are so fortunate to have both Sandra and Laurence being part of and leaders of our club, and their recognition in the Australia Day honours is very well-deserved."
