Building young stock – Wright, Clifford re-sign

The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys are pleased to announce that Jake Clifford and Shane Wright have agreed to contract extensions that will keep them at the club until the end of the 2020 season.

Clifford, 20, was named NYC Player of the Year in 2017 and the crafty halfback has begun 2018 in terrific form for the Northern Pride in the Queensland Cup.

The Tully Tigers junior ranks second in the competition with 54 points through six games, including 15 goals and six tries.

Wright, 22, is in his second season with the Cowboys after previously spending two years in the Gold Coast Titans' under 20s system.

A Proserpine Whitsunday Brahmans junior, Wright made his NRL debut in Round 24 last season, a reward for a string of strong performances in the second row for the Mackay Cutters in the Queensland Cup.

“They’re both good young players who we think are really important to the future of the club,” Cowboys General Manager – Football Peter Parr said.

“Both players have been identified as great assets for our structure moving forward and we think ensuring our stocks of good young talent is vital.”
