Platinum star set for trial weekend!
Members and fans will have their first glimpse of North Queensland Toyota Cowboys' 2018 action tonight, and Cairns-based Platinum Star member Marion Adcock will be making the most of her 'home' game!
Marion typically makes the 700-kilometre round trip to see her team play at home in Townsville during the season, so the Cowboys v Tigers trial game at Barlow Park will mean a much shorter drive for this passionate member.
The grandmother of eight became a full-season member in 2006 after her then 13-year-old son won tickets to the Cowboys' first grand final, and she hasn’t looked back.
“Being able to attend home games and get caught up in the atmosphere is what I love most about being a member,” Marion said.
“The Cowboys have an exciting playing style and we enjoy seeing the up-and-coming players move through the grades.”
Prior to her recent retirement, Marion and partner Peter would make sure they had a season car park pass to make the four-hour trip as seamless as possible.
“I would drive down from work and go straight to the game, at times coming back home that night if we had work,” she said.
Marion has already started to plan her visits to 1300SMILES Stadium to see her idol Johnathan Thurston return for his final season in 2018.
“Johnathan is such an awesome player and able to create magical moments on the field," she said.
“He sets a great example for kids, men, fathers and adults in general be they Indigenous or non-Indigenous – he really does transcend barriers.
“We’re looking forward to seeing the boys playing hard with very little injury to show the rest of the NRL what a formidable team they are.”
Enjoy tonight's game and Season 2018, Marion!
