If ever an individual tale of personal injury setback summed up the Cowboys’ season on this front as a whole, it was surely the many hard-luck stories of veteran winger Antonio Winterstein.

From a hamstring issue in a pre-season game in Mackay ruling him out of Round 1 through to a rib problem that plagued him in the finals, Winterstein was dogged by misfortune in 2017, including a broken arm suffered in Round 2.

Still, the 29-year-old warhorse battled through 19 games displaying his trademark punch on kick returns and reliable defence alongside long-time left-edge partner Kane Linnett.

2017 STATS:

Played: 19
Tries: 4
Average running metres: 112
Tackle breaks: 36
Off the field: He and wife Brooke have three daughters, Milannah, Harlan and Novah.
