After attempting to secure a full-time job in Townsville for almost a year, Jarva heard about the training and employment program from a friend and saw it as his best chance at starting work.

He enrolled in the program and went on to gain employment with the Cowboys Leagues Club, an industry partner with Dream, Believe, Achieve.

“DBA has been life-changing for me in so many ways; from helping overcome my barriers, to providing me with the qualification, training and work experience that I needed to help me get a job.

“The best part of the DBA program was making lifetime friends, and giving me the experience and encouragement I needed to get a job,” Jarva said.

Established in 2015, Dream, Believe, Achieve is a training and employment program proudly funded and supported by the Queensland Government through its Skilling Queenslanders for Work initiative.

Offering mentoring support to assist participants to complete training and secure ongoing employment, it has successfully helped hundreds of North Queenslanders gain an industry-recognised qualification.

Cowboys Leagues Club general manager Clint Williams said the program has been dually beneficial to North Queensland job-seekers and to supporting the ongoing recruitment strategy of the business.

“Being able to give these students work experience in a real hospitality environment not only helps grow their practical skills, but it also gives us the opportunity to meet future employees who have a passion for the industry and for delivering excellent customer service,” Mr Williams said.

“As the official social home of the Cowboys, we’re so pleased to be able to give back to our community in another, very meaningful way.”

Having worked at the Cowboys Leagues Club for three months now, Jarva is enjoying his new career and looks forward to learning new things.

“DBA has given me the opportunity to do work experience at Cowboys Leagues Club which has also given be the opportunity to be employed there," he said.

“What excites me most about my job and working in the hospitality industry is providing excellent service to the customers and giving tourists a great experience, knowing that they are satisfied and happy with your service.

“I’ve learnt so much in such a short time all thanks to the DBA program.”
