Military family home on the sofa
North Queensland Toyota Cowboys major partner and membership sponsor Shine Lawyers reward a lucky Cowboys member each home game with premium front row seats on the exclusive Shine Super Sofa!
After spending 11 years away from their beloved North Queensland, the Biedermann family have gladly returned home to Townsville and back to watch their team – the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys – live in action at 1300SMILES Stadium.
As an added bonus, Cowboys Diamond Star members Narelle, Tom and Riley were upgraded to front row seats at the home game against the Eels, thanks to Shine Lawyers!
Having supported the team since its inception in 1995, Narelle says she never stopped following the Cowboys even as their family moved throughout Australia to the ACT and Victoria, and even to America for Tom’s Army postings.
“I went to high school and studied nursing at university in Townsville, so I definitely call it home," Narelle said.
"But for Tom – having lived in Bundaberg until he was 18, he did support other teams in the NRL before sensibly switching allegiances to the Cowboys as part of his marriage contract 21 years ago!” she joked.
Tom serves in the Australian Army as a Lieutenant Colonel of the 3rd Brigade and used to watch rugby league games on DVDs the NRL sent over while he was posted to Afghanistan in 2012.
“The Cowboys also sent a supporters flag while I was away and I flew this in my room for my 10-month deployment to Kabul – and now we bring this flag to all of our games,” Tom said.
The Biedermann family all joined as Diamond Star members in 2013 to get as close to the action as they could.
“Our daughter Riley was basically born holding a Cowboys football, so she had no choice but to support the team, but being a member helps us support the team on a whole new level,” Narelle said.
“Our family’s favourite Cowboys moment would still have to be winning the grand final – I sat on the floor of our living room sobbing, and Riley still talks about the day her mum cried because the Cowboys won.”
As much as the family support the whole team, they all have their favourite players: “I’m a fan of the big boys up front – Matt Scott and Big Jase in particular, but I’m really impressed how Scotty Bolton and Coen Hess have stepped up this season and Tom is a big fan of JT and Jason,” Narelle said.
While the result against the Eels wasn’t the one they had hoped for, Narelle says the Shine Sofa was still an absolute highlight for the family.
“We felt really humbled to have been picked – we agreed that if you had to watch the boys go down, doing it from the Shine Sofa made it easier to take!” Narelle said.
Don’t miss your chance to experience the Shine Super Sofa by joining as a 2017 North Queensland Toyota Cowboys member – a Silver Star membership is a great way to lock in a reserved seat for three home games, plus enjoy all the member benefits!
