The North Queensland Toyota Cowboys have been emphatically bundled out of the NRL Auckland Nines by a rampant Melbourne Storm outfit, the 25-12 result seeing the side eliminated at the quarter-final stage for the third straight year.

Despite scoring first – courtesy of a Gideon Gela-Mosby classic – the Cowboys were played off the park as the Storm capitalised on every Cowboys mistake, with handling and defence letting the North Queenslanders down.

Gela-Mosby finished with six tries for the tournament, followed by Kalyn Ponga’s five and Javid Bowen four as the Cowboys now turn their attention to next weekend’s trial against the Roosters in Mackay.
