TWELVE of the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys’ 18-man Telstra Premiership-winning squad will visit members and supporters in Mackay, Mount Isa and Cairns on Sunday, October 18 in a landmark tour of major regional centres in the club’s footprint.

Large crowds are expected at the three cities with the club today confirming a packed itinerary on Sunday which will see the players and staff fly over 3000km over an 11-hour period to give their regional fan base a chance to see the Provan-Summons Trophy up close and personal.

“It will be a fantastic day and a real watershed moment in terms of connecting with Cowboys communities,” said Cowboys CEO Greg Tonner of the tour.

“The players and coaching staff have delivered the Cowboys a maiden NRL premiership and the club now wants to share this great achievement with our valued members, sponsors and supporters living in these three fantastic cities.

“There are also plans afoot to tour the Telstra Premiership Trophy to the smaller communities within Cowboys Country, and our staff are working hard behind the scenes to make this a reality over the coming weeks and months.”

Sunday’s tour, courtesy of Alliance Airlines, will depart Townsville at 8am, heading south to Mackay for a tickertape parade and civic reception at Bluewater Quay.

Next stop is Mount Isa where the Buchanan Park rodeo grounds will provide a fitting location for a civic reception for the premiership-winning Cowboys. A flight north to Cairns and an expected raucous welcome at Barlow Park rounds out the three-city tour with the plane set to arrive back in Townsville at 7pm.

The 12 players taking part in the tour include co-captains Johnathan Thurston and Matt Scott, while Cowboys mascot Bluey and cheerleaders from the NQ Spirit will also be part of the touring party.
