North Queensland Toyota Cowboys fans can cuddle cute puppies and dogs at the Saturday afternoon home game against the Raiders, as Community Corner hosts the pet rescue service, Townsville Foster and Rehoming Animals.

Townsville Foster and Rehoming Animals has rescued and re-housed over 4,000 animals in the last four years and director Angela Atkinson says that while some are abandoned or come from animal shelters, many are from owners who are unable to, or can’t afford to, keep them.

“Ours is a personalised service where many of the pets we get for adoption are from good homes where people’s circumstances have changed and they can no longer care for them.  They want to know that their beloved pet is going to a good home where they are going to be well loved,” Ms Atkinson said.

“Our personal touch means that we get the right match for the foster carers, the animal gets a new friend and our family grows.”

With over 65 volunteers, the service places each animal with a foster family who cares for them until a “forever family” can be found for them.

The team at are constantly inspired by the good news stories that comes with successfully rehoming a pet with their forever family.

“There’s nothing better than when one of the animals which first came to us thin and unhealthy finds its forever home and then three to six months down the road they send in picture of how happy they are with their new families.”

“We wanted to give fans coming to the game the chance to learn about Townsville Foster and Rehoming Animals and…there [is] no better way to get their attention than with a puppy.  They can come to Community Corner, have a pat and learn a bit more about what we do,” Ms Atkinson said.

The Community Corner space at North Queensland’s home games reflects the Cowboys’ commitment to assisting volunteer run charities and not for profit organisations to build awareness and support within the local community.

Twelve charities working in and benefiting the North Queensland community are offered this opportunity throughout the 2015 season.
