Watching his teammates win the NRL Auckland Nines last weekend has added to Toyota Cowboys co-captain Matt Scott's eagerness to get his season under way.

Along with his Kangaroos teammates Johnathan Thurston and Brent Tate, the front-rower will hit the playing field for the first time in Saturday night's pre-season trial against the Gold Coast Titans in Toowoomba.

He hopes to play around 50 minutes against the Titans a fortnight out from round one against Canberra.

Scott watched the Nines triumph on TV at home in Townsville and admits his nervousness grew as the Cowboys made their way through the draw, eventually beating Brisbane in the final to win the club's first NRL silverware.

He was quick to send messages to the victorious Cowboys, 12 of whom will back up from the Nines weekend to play the Titans.

"Certainly watching the boys run around and win the final has made me keen (for the season)," Scott said.

"It actually really made me want to play."
