Women's Academy

The inaugural year of the North Queensland Toyota Cowboys Women’s Academy in 2020 continues the commitment of the club to nurture and create opportunities for the region’s talent.

The Cowboys Women’s Academy provides a structured pathway to support the coaching and development of talented young women into elite rugby league.

The academy delivers a best practice coaching and development program led by experienced coaching staff so that players can reach their full potential while staying within the North Queensland region.

The program aligns with the purpose of the Cowboys men's academy, to provide skills enhancement, best practice training techniques, support and guidance, and elite-level coaching.

Talent will be identified and invited to participate in a minimum of six academy sessions held in Mackay, Townsville and Cairns.

Participants will be identified via:

  • Grassroots junior and senior club competitions
  • Schoolgirl competitions
  • Representative pathways
  • The Queensland School Sport Rugby League State Championships
  • Rugby league carnivals
  • School and club recommendations

All three locations also have a satellite squad with up to 15 players aged over 17 selected from the academy for their chance to be play in the QRLW competition with the North Queensland Gold Stars.
