An exciting young talent out of the Keebra Park High School rugby league nursery on the Gold Coast, Martin joined the Cowboys midway through the 2017 National Rugby League season and is contracted until the end of 2019.
He scored a try and kicked the winning field goal in his rugby league debut in 2016, however his season was cut short by a shoulder injury.
The young New Zealander made his Cowboys debut in Round 17 against the Raiders, scoring a double in the Cowboys’ 31-18 win.
Forming a boom halves combination with halfback Michael Morgan at the back end of the season, Martin flourished at his new club and would play in all but one game for the remainder of the season, scoring four more tries as the Cowboys surged to a premiership decider against the Storm.
Martin’s boom year ended on another high when selected for the New Zealand team at the 2017 Rugby League World Cup, the 22-year-old scoring a hat-trick in the Kiwis’ 74-6 demolition of Scotland in week 2 of the tournament.
Regarded purely as a half coming into the 2018 season, Te Maire Martin proved to be a versatile asset for North Queensland Toyota Cowboys head coach Paul Green.
Martin was thrust into the starting five-eighth role to start the year after the pre-season injury to regular No.6 Michael Morgan.
Come Round 19 and Martin was on the move again. Despite never playing fullback at any level of rugby league, Martin was moved to the No.1 jersey for the match against St George Illawarra and responded with three consecutive Cowboys player of the match awards.
