When will the new stadium be ready?

The Queensland Country Bank Stadium is on track for completion in time for the start of the 2020 NRL season.

How many seats will the new stadium have?

The Queensland Country Bank Stadium will have a 25,000-seat capacity with the option to expand to 30,000 seats in the future. This provides 7,000 more seats than the current 1300SMILES Stadium. The new stadium will also accommodate up to 40,000 patrons in concert mode. There will be four primary seating areas in the new venue – Western, Southern and Eastern grandstands, and the Northern terrace.

Where is the stadium located?

The Queensland Country Bank Stadium site is located within the Townsville City Waterfront Priority Development Area adjacent to the Townsville Central Business District, between Ross Creek and Saunders Street.

Who is building the stadium?

The delivery of the Queensland Country Bank Stadium project is being led by the Department of Housing and Public Works with an experienced team of contractors and consultants: Watpac (managing contractor), Cox Architecture (principal consultant), AECOM (audit quantity survey), RCP (audit programmer).

Why is there only one screen?

The screen at Queensland Country Bank Stadium has been designed to be viewed by all patrons throughout the stadium.

What disabled facilities will be available for disabled access, including lifts?

The stadium has been designed in compliance with the National Construction Code and the Disability (Access to Premises-Buildings) Standards, with entry points via lifts in the Western, Southern and Eastern grandstands and ramp access from the northern entrance.

What area of the new stadium will be covered?

The stadium will feature a horseshoe-shaped, cantilever roof inspired by the pandanus plant. While providing an elegant expression of the building, the roof will shade about 75 per cent of the seating, with generous overhangs over the concourse and main entry.

Will I be able to walk around the whole stadium?

Yes – the new stadium will feature a sweeping nine-metre-wide concourse where patrons can walk the full 600-metre circumference of the stadium and enjoy views to the field of play.

Which ticketing agent will service the new stadium?

Ticketmaster has been named the official ticketing agent for the Queensland Country Bank Stadium.

Why do we need a new stadium?

The project provides a catalyst for urban regeneration in Townville, attracting further investment into the region and supporting job growth. Once complete the stadium will host a multitude of sporting, cultural and community events. 1300SMILES Stadium, formerly a racing track, has served the community and the Cowboys well but as a government-owned facility, it is at the end of its economic life.

What will happen to 1300SMILES Stadium?

The current stadium is owned by Stadiums Queensland and they are yet to release information on future plans for 1300SMILES Stadium once the new stadium opens.

The North Queensland Stadium is a joint project of the Queensland Government, Australian Government and Townsville City Council and is supported by both the National Rugby League and the North Queensland Cowboys. The stadium forms part of the Townsville City Deal signed in December 2016.
